‘The Histronauts – A Greek Adventure!’ by Dr Frances Durkin, illustrated by Grace Cooke. – Library Girl and Book Boy

‘The Histronauts – A Greek Adventure!’ is the newest title in the Histronauts series written by historian and author, Dr. Frances Durkin. The intrepid team of time-travelling children have already visited Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, The Viking times, and are now heading off to Ancient Greece to explore the marketplaces, witness the birth of theatre, and learn about everyday life in an Ancient Greek home.

‘When the Histronauts travel back in time to the time of the ancient Greeks, they’ll need your help to uncover the secrets of the past. Join them on their journey as they visit the Acropolis, watch the activities that inspired the Olympic Games and paint masks for a thrilling Greek tragedy at the amphitheatre. An exciting mix of story, facts and activity!’

There is plenty to explore in this title, whether you prefer your information presented as text or prefer to learn from pictures. The heavily illustrated format of this text makes it feel like part graphic novel, part information book which is something I’m sure lots of readers will engage with.

This adventure is a really varied mix of facts, stories, practical activities and graphic novel-style layouts which make it lots of fun to read and gives readers plenty of different ways to access and enjoy the facts being shared.

Book Boy Jr (aged 8) thoroughly enjoyed reading this independently and I think it would be suitable to the end of KS2.

Great fun and packed with information! 7+

Library Girl.
